šŸ“ƒ My exact plan for the first day/week back to school. This plan has transformed my students' reactions from "I donā€™t like this class" to ā€œMy favorite class of the day", "I love this class" and "I was so nervous because I'm not good at Spanish, but I understood everything." (These are actual quotes from my student's first day exit tickets).

šŸ§± How I structure my class so I can leave at 4 PM and donā€™t have to plan on evenings or Sundays. As teachers, we can have it both. A great lesson plan and rest.Ā

šŸš« The 3 big mistakes I made in the past to start the year: Learn from my experiences to avoid frustration and disappointment during your back-to-school week.

1.Ā Adopt an efficient, effective framework for crafting compelling and comprehensible lessons starting from your Back To School Unit.

2.Ā Be in control of what you can control.Ā  Focusing on what you can control will make you feel more effective and more confident in your teaching.Ā  Stop second guessing yourself.

3.Ā Prioritize what's important and win back your time. We can spend hours doing things that will not have an impact on our studentsā€™ proficiency.Ā  But the only way we will know that is if we know what our students need to acquire the language and develop proficiency.Ā

Ready to have your lesson plan for first day/week ready?Ā You choose the date and the language ā€“ I'll show you how it's done!

IĀ“M IN!

Why This Is So Important...

Let me take you back to 2005.Ā

By a twist of fate, I ended up teaching Spanish in a high school with only my textbook and the language. I went page by page, not really knowing why I was doing what I was doing, just following the book.Ā

I believed those textbooks were the key to getting my students talking in Spanish. But that didn't happen.

Of course I blamed my students and then I blamed myself.Ā  But then, I started to ask some important questions. Like, how do my students develop proficiency? How do they acquire the language? The answers were a revelation.

Everything clicked.

I decided to make dramatic changes in my class. I ditched the textbook and the desks. I started from scratch, and after many years of trial and error, I gained clarity and developed some pillars and framework for my class.Ā

Those pillars and framework became my compass and kept me from burning out. I didnā€™t have to spend hours planning.Ā  I could be effective while keeping work at work.Ā Ā Ā

Ā
Ā
Ā

And when I saw how these new pillars and framework transformed how my students and I engaged in the class, I knew I had to share my insights with teachers like you.

My class has become more joyful, connected, and relevant, with many students pursuing experiences in Spanish-speaking countries and careers in Latin American studies, international relations, and Spanish.

I began presenting at various forums in the United States and abroad, and I continue to do so.

However, many teachers sought ongoing support. That's when I founded Growing With Proficiency: The Spanish Teacher Academy, which has since helped over 500 Spanish teachers learn and grow with us.

In 2022, I launched Growing With Proficiency: The Podcast, which now has more than 100 episodes and over 85,000 downloads.

But the best part has been seeing the impact on other students and teachers. Many teachers have shared with me how they have rediscovered the joy in teaching and how their students are more engaged while building their proficiency.

My mission is to support Spanish teachers like you to engage your students, reduce apathy, build their proficiency and your own confidence as a teacher, and most importantly, help you regain your passion and joy in teaching.

Are you ready?

Let's plan together!
